He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Nancy (Walker) Cross of Sunapee and a blended family, daughters, Brenda Cross Nye of Crystal River, Fla., Judith Cross Bonsall of Newport, N.H. and stepdaughter, Teresa Aldrich and her husband, Raymond of Goshen, N.H.; stepsons, Shawn Simonds and his wife, April of Sunapee and William Simonds and his wife, Jennifer of Charlestown, N.H.; his grandchildren include Ben Blaine, Andrew Bonsall, Patrick Simonds, Justin Simonds, Madison Hynes, Alexis Simonds and James Simonds; great-grandchildren, Syara, Keyara and Pattison; his sister, Nancy Cross Putney of Springfield, N.H.; nieces, nephews and cousins.
John worked at a shoe shop in Newport, at Dorr Woolen, was self employed as a painter and retired from Pine Tree Castings (Sturm Ruger) in 2001 after over 30 years of service. After retirement he worked for neighbors in Sunapee doing lawn care.
Since 2005, John and Nancy have been making their winter home at the South Pasadena Senior Park in St. Petersburg, Fla. They have enjoyed many cruises with special friends, Veryl and Shirley Reaman from Lindsay, Ontario, Canada. John enjoyed riding his three wheel bike throughout the park stopping to talk to neighbors, bowling, playing bocci and shuffleboard, and just sitting on the porch visiting with folks walking by. He took great pride in the appearance of his lawn in Sunapee.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the Lake Sunapee Community United Methodist Church, Lower Main Street, Sunapee. Burial will follow in Eastman Cemetery, Sunapee.
