Hartford— Authorities say the fire last week that destroyed the recently sold Heirloom Antique Center & Furniture Hospital and Mainly Vintage clothing store off Route 5 started in the lower level of the building.

But Hartford Fire Chief Scott Cooney said on Monday that officials still are investigating what sparked the early morning fire on June 19.

“The cause of the fire is still under investigation and remains undetermined until information from eye witnesses can be gathered and analyzed,” Cooney wrote in a news release.

The investigation is expected to continue for several weeks, he said.

Richard Brown and his partner Ann Hayden owned the business, and recently had sold the property to Marc Garza, who had plans to develop a gym there.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Vermont State Police at 802-722-4600 or submit an anonymous tip by texting keyword VTIPS to 274637.
