Farmington, n.h. — Don’t look now, but the Lebanon Post 22 American Legion juniors are off to a strong start in New Hampshire baseball play.

Boosted by the pitching of Zach Moore, Kobe Benoit and Nolan Gantrish, Lebanon improved to 4-0 with a 10-3, 7-3 doubleheader sweep of Alton Post 72 on Sunday at Farmington High School. Moore and Benoit each picked up wins, while Gantrish threw in relief in both contests for Post 22.

Moore allowed four hits and three walks with five strikeouts over 5⅔ innings in the opener, with Gantrish covering the rest (one walk, two strikeouts). Gantrish and Benoit backed the offense, combining to score five runs and drive in three.

Benoit went 5⅓ innings in the nightcap, fanning three with four hits and five walks. Gantrish again tossed an inning and a third (two hits, two strikeouts), and Kyle Pelletier got the final out for Lebanon.

Gantrish, Pelletier, Kyle Young and Jorgan Leuthauser all had multiple hits in the second contest for Post 22, which hosts Nashua at Lebanon High School on Tuesday.

Hawks-Gulls Called Off

White River Junction — The threat of precipitation led the Upper Valley Nighthawks to postpone their New England Collegiate Baseball League game with the Newport Gulls on Sunday.

Instead of setting a new date at the Maxfield Sports Complex, the two teams will play a pair of seven-inning games at the Gulls’ Cardines Field on July 2. The doubleheader will commence at 4 p.m.

Upper Valley (9-6) is off until visiting the Winnipesaukee Muskrats in Laconia on Tuesday. The Nighthawks return to Maxfield on Wednesday to entertain the Vermont Mountaineers in the second game of the six-game Governors Cup series. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
