Margaret Jacobs, a Mohawk tribe member and Dartmouth College alumna who works primarily in sculpture and jewelry, is one of three recipients of the New England Foundation for the Arts’ 2018 Rebecca Blunk Fund. The award recognizes Jacobs for artistic excellence and achievement, and comes with an unrestricted $3,000 prize that is meant to support the creation of new work.
The Enfield artist and her husband Justin O’Rourke are currently at work on the sculptural installation Steel Umbrella, which was one of two works selected to appear on the new Mascoma River Greenway when it opens in Lebanon next month.

AVA Gallery and Art Center in Lebanon will celebrate today’s summer solstice — and the one-year anniversary of its “Bente Building,” the sculptural studies building named for AVA’s longtime director, Bente Torjursen — with a Summer Solstice Party tonight from 5:30 to 7:30.
The event, free and open to the public, will include raku (Japanese pottery) and hot forging demonstrations, a pop-up sculpture exhibition, music, food and drink.
A discussion on the theme of “Women in Conservation” will take place at the Montshire Museum of Science in Norwich tonight from 6:30 to 8:30, featuring Joan Hoffman, a South Royalton-based landscape painter and former national parks artist-in-residence, and Christina Marts, deputy superintendent of Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park in Woodstock and Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site in Cornish.

Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m., Hanover’s Hood Downtown will hold an opening reception for its final show before the Hood Museum of Art re-opens in January 2019.
The reception is for “The Firmament,” an exhibit of drawings by Toyin Ojih Odutola that explore the conceptualization of race. On view through Sept. 2.
Aidron Duckworth Art Museum in Meriden will host an opening reception Saturday afternoon from 3 to 6 for the outdoor sculptural installation “Parliament of the Souls,” by the Vershire artist Sande French-Stockwell. After an artist talk from French-Stockwell at 4, dance artists Hanna Satterlee of Burlington and Jessie Owens of Jeffersonville, Vt. will perform a piece choreographed specifically to accompany the installation. Through Oct. 28.
Also on view at the Duckworth is “Exhibition XXXI: Forms Hidden, Forms Revealed,” curated from three series of Duckworth’s work. The show continues through July 22, as does “Strata Series,” an exhibit of new prints by Sheri Hancock-Tomek.
Column II, an outdoor sculpture by artist and musician John McKenna, is on view at the Duckworth through Oct. 22. McKenna grew up in Norwich and lives in Barrington, R.I.
“Its Honor is Hereby Pledged: Broken Treaty Quilts,” an exhibit of quilts by Gina Adams, the new artist-in-residence at Dartmouth College’s Studio Art Department, opens Tuesday in the Jaffe-Friede Gallery in the Hopkins Center for the Arts in Hanover. Adams will give an artist talk at 4:45 p.m. in the Loew Auditorium of the Black Family Visual Arts Center. Her show continues through July 22.
“Light Field,” an exhibit of paintings by Alison Weld, opened Wednesday at BigTown Gallery in Rochester, Vt. where it will have its opening reception Sunday at 4 p.m. Weld, based in the Adirondacks of upstate New York, will give an artist talk and engage in a Q&A. The show continues through July 21.

The Boston-based painter Pennie Brantley shows work in “Roads Taken.” Scott Gordon, of Norwich, shows artwork made from repurposed steel in “Unintended Objects.” All three shows continue through July 6.
Center for The Arts, New London. Work is shown in three micro-galleries: at New London Inn, showing paintings by Vicki Koron, of Sunapee; at Bar Harbor Bank and Trust, featuring work by Newport, N.H. oil painter Ludmila Gayvoronsky; and at Whipple Hall Gallery, which displays the work of Proctor Academy students.
Chelsea Public Library. “Common Objects and Uncommon Places,” a show of acrylic paintings by Chelsea artist, and founder of the Chelsea Art Collective, Carrie Caouette-De Lallo, is on view through June.
Chew & Co. Design, Hanover. The closing date for an art show by recent Dartmouth graduates has been extended to mid-August.

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon. The D-H Arts Program’s spring exhibit features work by two Upper Valley oil painters, Ludmila Gayvoronsky of Newport, N.H., and Rae Newell of Bridgewater Corners. The other artists are watercolorist Diane Bell of Weston, Vt.; Evelien Bachrach of Hancock, N.H., who works in multiple mediums; acrylics painter Laura Ewing of Cambridge, Mass.; and photographer Ira Gavrin of Marlborough, N.H.
Gifford Gallery, Randolph. Tina Valentinetti, of Moretown, Vt., shows wildlife and landscape photographs at the Gifford Medical Center gallery through July 11.
