Haverhill, N.H. —
Toot was born in Haverhill on Jan. 7, 1952, to Stanley Fredrick and Velma (Emery) Holden. He was a graduate of Woodsville High School, Class of 1970.
Toot retired on May 28, 2007, from his longtime employment as head of maintenance for the Glencliff Home. For many autumns, he has assisted his sister, Sue, operating the Indian Corn Mill. In his early years, he assisted his mother at Holden General Store in Warren, N.H. Following his retirement and never one to be idle, he helped local farmers with field work including Dale Lewis, Richard Morris, Miles Conklin, and Bob Mitchell. Toot was instrumental using his carpentry and building skills in assisting his daughter Kara establishing her businesses in Acton and Bedford, Mass.
Over the years, Toot loved sugaring with family and friends for Powderhouse Sugarers in Haverhill. He enjoyed gardening, helping his daughters, snowmobiling, water skiing, and golf. He liked all sports but he especially enjoyed going to NASCAR races at Loudon. Toot was a meticulous homekeeper and housekeeper.
He is survived by two daughters, Kara Erb and husband Josh of Acton, Mass. and Ashley Lazzara and husband Vincent and their daughter Gabriella of South Ryegate, Vt.; two sisters, Sandra Holden Knapp and husband Dexter of Haverhill and Susan F. Holden of Pike, N.H.; his companion, Carol Brunelle of Haverhill; two nephews, Hubbel and Jaben Knapp; two aunts; and several cousins.
There will be no calling hours.
A graveside service will be on Sunday, June 10 at 1 p.m. in Ladd Street Cemetery, Haverhill. Following the graveside service, everyone is encouraged to return to Alumni Hall on Court Street in Haverhill where there will be a continued time of remembrance and sharing of Toot’s life.
