Lebanon, N.H. — Lillian Belle Papineau, 96, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018.  She was born July 3, 1921 in Etna Village at her home.  Daughter of the late Stacy W. and Gertrude L. McAlister.  She was married to Edward Ellis Corwell of Sheldon, Vt. on Dec. 10th, 1938.  Edward gave his life for our country and freedom when he was killed Nov. 13th, 1944 while fighting in the infantry, in Germany during WWII.  He was 27.  Lillian grew up in Etna and attended the two-room school house before graduating from Hanover.  She re married Forrest C. Marsh in Sept. of 1945.  He was better known as “Buster” and some will remember the hot lunch truck that he operated for many years across the street from City Hall in Lebanon before passing away in May of 1969.

Lillian spent many of her years as a homemaker bringing her children into adulthood as many did during those times.  In recent years Lillian resided at the Mascoma Village Apartments in Lebanon with her late husband John L. Papineau.  John passed away June 25, 1996.  Since that time Lillian has spend hundreds of hours collecting and arranging in scrapbook form, very historical photo’s, news clippings, and other articles related to local towns.  In particular Etna, Hanover, and Lebanon.  Also, some world events.  Many pages illustrate how it was from the early 40’s to our recent years.  A real love for historical material.

She is survived by two children Jean L. Cotting of Lebanon, N.H. and Fred E. Corwell of Enfield, N.H.  Also, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lillian was pre-deceased by her youngest son Donald L. Marsh and Richard C. Marsh of Lebanon.  Sisters Dorothy M., Joanne M. McAlister and Edna J. McKenney, Brothers Walter N. and William C. McAlister.

Following Lillian’s request there will be no calling hours, funeral or graveside service.  Lillian’s remains will rest in the Valley Cemetery on Mechanic Street Extension in Lebanon.
