Philadelphia — Aaron Nola took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, Nick Williams hit his third pinch-hit homer in the eighth and the Phillies moved into first in the NL East on Saturday with a 2-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Nola did not allow a hit until Russell Martin’s tying RBI single with two out in the seventh. He struck out 10 and walked three while throwing 113 pitches, matching a career high.

Seranthony Dominguez (1-0) allowed one hit in 1⅓ innings for his first major league win. Luis Garcia worked the ninth for his first save.

Angels 11, Yankees 4

New York — Mike Trout homered and doubled three times during his first five-hit game in the majors, and Los Angeles quickly erased an early deficit in beating New York.

Playing not far from his southern New Jersey hometown, Trout went deep for the third straight game to tie Boston’s Mookie Betts for the big league lead with 17 home runs. The two-time MVP drove in four runs and set career bests with four extra-base hits and 11 total bases.

Athletics 3, Diamondbacks 0

Oakland, Calif. — Daniel Mengden pitched a two-hitter for his second career shutout, leading Oakland to the victory.

The Diamondbacks wasted a solid outing for Clay Buchholz in their 15th loss in 17 games. Buchholz (0-1) permitted one run and two hits in six innings.

Rangers 4, Royals 3 (10)

Arlington, Texas — Shin-Soo Choo became the top major league home run hitter born in Asia, connecting for a leadoff drive in the 10th inning that lifted Texas.

Choo’s 176th career homer moved him past Hideki Matsui for the most by an Asian player.

Brewers 17, Mets 6

Milwaukee — Erik Kratz homered in his Brewers debut, and Jesus Aguilar also connected.

Christian Yelich had three hits, drove in three runs and scored three times for the NL Central-leading Brewers, who have won eight of their last 10.

Nationals 4, Marlins 1

Miami — Mark Reynolds hit a tiebreaking homer leading off the ninth inning, and the Nationals rallied to beat the Marlins for the 10th consecutive time.

Miami’s Wei-Yin Chen took a two-hit shutout into the eighth but gave up a one-out homer to Wilmer Difo, who pulled a pitch off the foul pole to make the score 1-all.

Cardinals 4, Pirates 1

Pittsburgh — Jack Flaherty pitched six crisp innings and Matt Carpenter homered, leading St. Louis.

Flaherty (2-1) allowed four hits, struck out four and walked two.

Rays 5, Orioles 1

St. Petersburg, Fla. — Ryne Stanek, Anthony Banda and Chaz Roe combined on a three-hitter on a bullpen day for Tampa Bay.

With the Rays thin in the rotation, Banda (1-0) entered with two outs in the second. He wound up allowing one run and three hits while striking out seven over 6⅓ innings. Roe worked a perfect ninth.

White Sox 8, Tigers 4

Detroit — Tim Anderson homered twice on his way to a career-high four RBIs, leading Hector Santiago and the White Sox.

Santiago (1-2) allowed three runs, two earned, and seven hits in five innings in his first win since May 9, 2017, for Minnesota against the White Sox.

Giants 5, Cubs 4

Chicago — Brandon Crawford hit a two-run homer, Brandon Belt drove in two runs and San Francisco beat Chicago to stop a three-game slide.

Andrew McCutchen had two hits and drove in a run as San Francisco won for the first time on an eight-game trip. Chris Stratton (6-3) shook off a shaky start and lasted five innings for his third straight win.
