Wilder, Vt. — Richard (Dick) F. Maurer, Sr., 88, passed away in the comfort of his home on Sunday  May 13, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born in Greenwich, Conn. to the late Frederick J. Maurer and Julia A. (Zboray)  Maurer on Aug. 1, 1929. Growing up he spent his summers at a family farm on Brigham Hill in Norwich, Vt., then the family moved there after he graduated High School.  He married Kathryn E. Schoff on June 13, 1953 where they shared 64 wonderful years raising their five children in Wilder, Vt. His career started by working at Dartmouth College, then spent 39 years at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, N.H. as an Anesthesia Technician. Dick was also a Volunteer Fireman with the Hanover Fire Department for over 25 years. Dick also liked working side jobs as a Bartender and Catering with Blood’s Seafood.  In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and was an all-around handyman and do-it-yourselfer. Other fond memories include bowling where that took him traveling all over the United States going to National Tournaments, vacationing via Bus Tours and Cruises. He was proud to build and provide his family and friends a summer home on Goose Pond in Hanover, NH where he took pleasure fishing nightly with neighbor David Ahern. His greatest joy was being with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his five children; Sheila Morse (Douglas) Lebanon, N.H., Richard Maurer, Jr. (Victoria) Enfield, N.H., Elizabeth Clark (Bruce) Meriden, N.H., Jacqueline Grasso (Joseph) Wolfeboro, NH and Deborah Maurer Wilder, VT; twelve grandchildren; Stacey Morse Smith, Dustin Morse, Amelia Maurer, Richard (Max) Maurer, III, Kaitlin Clark Bruhmuller, Emma Clark, Halle Clark, Joseph Grasso, Jonathan Grasso, Joshua Grasso, Derek Tobin, Spencer Tobin;  three great-grandchildren; Stella Smith, Dylan Smith and Logan Morse; one brother-in-law, Robert Schoff of Ashford, Conn., two sisters-in-laws, Barbara Dickerman of Boscawen, N.H. and Ruth (Dave) Pratt of Saxons River, Vt.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathryn E. (Schoff) Maurer, and his parents, Frederick & Julia (Zboray) Maurer.

Family and friends are invited to Dick’s memorial calling hours at the Ricker Funeral Home and Crematory in Lebanon, N.H. on June 24 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
