South Royalton, Vt. — Rachel L. Wight, 82, of South Royalton, died Thursday afternoon, May 17, 2018, at Menig Extended Care Facility in Randolph Center.

She was born May 27, 1935, in Royalton; the daughter of Howard & Ruby (Rand) Benson. She was a lifetime Royalton – South Royalton resident and was married to Theodore Wight. Rachel had worked for Ford’s Poultry Plant, the Atlantic Diner, Van Raalte, several South Royalton grocers, and was a substitute mail carrier in South Royalton. She was a member of the Randolph Women’s bowling league, enjoyed piling cut wood, and was an avid Celtics and Red Sox fan.

Survivors include her daughter Judy Hatch of South Royalton; son Gary Wight of Tunbridge; sisters Barbara English of Royalton & Marion Whitney of South Royalton; brothers Walter Benson & Leon “Butch” Benson both of South Royalton; three grandchildren, Jessie Wright, Gary Wight, and Kirby Craven; six great-grandchildren, Austin Tracy, Dominic Craven, Donavan Craven, Cameron Craven, Maxwell Smart, and Tyler Lieberman. She was predeceased by her husband in 1984, and by nine brothers and sisters.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 7 at Riverview Cemetery in South Royalton, with Pastor Thomas Harty, officiating. There are no calling hours.
