South Royalton, Vt. — Flora Winnie Hastings (Moulton), 98, of South Royalton, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, May 11, 2018.

Flora was born Nov. 29, 1919 the youngest of four children at her home in Thetford, Vt., to Will W. Moulton and Lillian (Johnson) Moulton. She was a graduate of Bradford Academy and Lyndon State College; Flora and her sisters were all college graduates! Flora was a teacher starting in 1940 at a one-room schoolhouse in Norton, Vermont continuing for some twenty years including schools in Corinth, Randolph, and Tunbridge, as well as a substitute teacher for several years. On August 26, 1949 Flora married Neil Hastings of Corinth, Vt.

She and her husband Neil moved to South Royalton in 1955 from the family farm in Corinth (and is still in family possession since 1780) and she’s lived in the same home ever since. She was an active member of the United Church of South Royalton. During this time she was on the Outreach Committee and in the United Church Women.

Flora also participated in the local Book Club, Women’s Club and Better Homes Club. She was also honored to be president of each of these. Although she spent many years in club work, her first love has always been her family and home. As part of this love, she spent many hours over the years on genealogy activities (before the Internet!) Among her many interests, she enjoyed reading mysteries and biographies, plants, flower gardens, baking, and her pets. But most important of all was her love of family and family gatherings.

She is survived by her three children, Ann Hastings-Works and husband Vaughn of Barre, Vt.; Walter Hastings of South Royalton; William Hastings and wife Paulie of South Royalton; grandchildren Tyler Hastings, Emily Hastings, and Sarah Works.

Flora was predeceased by her husband Neil, sisters Minnie Wood and husband Maurice; Norman Moulton and wife Barbara; Ivis Moulton Basset and husband John; and Flora’s grandson Neil Allan Works.
