Royalton — Individuals who have misdemeanor marijuana convictions on their records from Windsor County are invited to Vermont Law School on June 9 for help with expunging those offenses.

Come July 1, Vermont law will allow people to possess small amounts of marijuana, and in recognition of that change, Windsor County State’s Attorney David Cahill and the Center for Justice Reform have agreed to help individuals with the expunction process, according to a recent news release.

Chittenden County State’s Attorney Sarah George also is on board and will hold a separate event in her county on June 12.

Once the record is expunged, a person may claim he or she was never arrested, convicted or sentenced for that particular crime.

Felony marijuana offenses, convictions for marijuana sale and any offenses outside of Windsor and Chittenden counties aren’t eligible for expunction at these events.

Participants will complete a petition, which will then be reviewed and accepted by the attorneys and filed with the court.

The event for those in Windsor County will be held at the law school in Royalton from 9 a.m. to noon.
