Hanover
Hanover High’s Kai Renshaw and Amelia Wallis will compete off both the 1- and 3-meter boards at nationals. Renshaw posted a championship-qualifying score of 392.85 points on the former and 425.35 off the latter. Wallis posted 365.00 points for 10 dives to meet the 1-meter standard and scored 390.00 points to do the same in 3-meter competition.
Both Renshaw and Wallis are two-time defending NHIAA diving champions at Hanover. Renshaw accomplished both of her nationals results in the past three weeks. Both will compete in the 16- to 18-year-old age group at the championship.
Richmond Middle School diver Samuel Calderwood will join them in the 12-13 age group after he qualified for the meet as well. Needing 210 points to secure his spot, Calderwood posted 211.35 during spring AAU competition.
The national championship is set for July 20-27 at the Northside Independent School District Swim Center in San Antonio. All three will be back in the diving well for a meet at Wellesley (Mass.) College on May 20.

Flames Burn Bright
Meriden
With four new players (Andrew Belk, Nick Galev, Theo Vassiliou and Riley Sullivan) in the lineup and temperatures dropping, the Flames warmed up to the challenge. Belk, Logan Isham and Cavan O’Brien locked down the back line, and Sullivan worked a sixth-minute give-and-go with Adam Goodney for a 1-0 lead. Paul Ashton converted a long-distance punt from goalie Norwood Davis in the 27th minute to double LSC’s lead entering the break.
Sullivan converted a Galev pass and Vassiliou maneuvered around a defender to score following a Sullivan throw-in for LSC’s second-half strikes. GPS’ lone goal came on a final-minute penalty kick.
Cyclones Succumb to Rally
Meriden
Nate Solberg found the back of the net first to get the Cyclones on the scoreboard. Ryder Wilson made it 2-0, and Graham Thompson nearly added another goal on a free kick that the Nashua goalkeeper denied.
The opposition rebounded at that point, firing off three unanswered scores for the comeback win.
U11 Comets Eclipsed
Meriden
Both squads played well over the opening half, but neither had success in denting the net. NEFC upper its energy level and got the upper hand after the interval with two goals past capable LSC goalkeepers Ryder Wildon and Zachary Garfield.
Fire, GPS Get Muddy
Newbury, Mass.
Zane Ross put the Fire on the board in the first half with a rocket set up by Zane Schiffman after nifty exchanges with teammates Connor Hamlin and Tinashe Mhlauri. GPS equalized just before halftime when a 30-yard free kick died in a puddle in the Fire’s penalty area, leaving a sitting conversion past goalie Jack Maynes.
Palmer Okai and Wyatt Napier played a strong second half in front of Maynes to ensure LSC’s share of the points.
Sonic Slips in Mass.
Woburn, Mass.
NEFC jumped to a 2-0 lead before Amane Matsuoka converted an individual effort to draw the Sonic to within a goal. Matsuoka nearly did it again with a drive to the right corner of the NEFC net in the second half only to be judged offside.
NEFC regained a two-goal edge, allowing a Tyler St. Martin goal but nothing else.
In other LSC boys soccer action:
Lightning’s U-14 Force played GPS North Shore to a 2-2 draw in Meriden on Sunday.
Sparks Blank GPS
Woburn, Mass.
Mary Rainey, Grace Nostrant and Juliette Hampton provided the Sparks’ strikes. Mo McBride earned the shutout in goal, denying GPS several solid opportunities in the second half to keep the Sparks unbeaten for their spring season.
