White River Junction — Members of the Upper Valley Aquatic club’s swim team topped the $10,000 mark in donations from their annual swim-a-thon earlier this month.

According to a club news release, athletes drew in $10,929 during the April 7 event, a record amount. The money raised helps the club buy equipment, cover meet costs and fund athlete travel expenses. The club also made a $546 donation to the USA Swimming Foundation.

The UVAC team competes at its White River Junction facility and also practices at Colby-Sawyer college in New London. The team roster includes more than 130 swimmers from all over the Upper Valley.

UVRC Wins Second

Springfield, Mass. — The Upper Valley Rugby Club rolled to its second win of the spring New England Rugby Football Union season by knocking off Springfield Rifles RFC, 33-22, on Saturday.

Evan Dalton, Jack Sears, Adam Barczewski and Darius Long provided the tries for UVRC, which plays in NERFU Division IV. Dalton added to his totals by successfully booting four conversion kicks on five attempts. D-III Springfield tried to use a large forward pack to cut into the Mountain Men’s lead in the second half, but UVRC’s defense proved too stout.

The win followed a schedule-opening 33-19 defeat of Freedom RFC in New Hampton, N.H., on April 14. The Mountain Men head to Keene, N.H., to play NERFU D-III Monadnock Wolfpack on Saturday before competing in the NERFU Cup tournament in Newport, R.I., on May 5-6.

The UVRC Valkyries women’s team is 0-2-1 following a loss to Charles River in Boston on Saturday. The Valkyries opened their season with two matches at the Light It Up Blue tournament in Manchester on April 14, drawing with host Amoskeag RFC, 12-12, and losing to North Shore.
