White River Jct., Vt. — Susan Ellen Lashway, 55, passed away on Thursday morning, April 19, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Nov. 30, 1962, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., the daughter of Clarence and Elnora (Trombley) Smith. Sue grew up in Ellenburg Corners, N.Y. and attended Ellenburg High School.

When she was younger she worked for a short time at the Ribbon Factory in Plattsburgh, N.Y. and also bartended at the D&R in Ellenburg Center, N.Y. In 1987 she and her fiancé, Brian Lashway, moved to Vermont and she started her long career at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where she held multiple positions throughout the organization. On June 11, 1988, she and Brian were married at St. Edmund’s Church in Ellenburg Center. They then made their home in White River Junction. Sue loved children, so along with raising her own, she also had a daycare out of her home for many years.

Beside her great love for children, family was most important to Sue – getting together at family functions, she was the glue that held it all together. Sue also enjoyed cooking, gardening, arranging flowers, and especially camping. She and Brian had a seasonal site at Running Bear Campground in Ascutney, Vt. where she loved socializing with their friends and dancing the night away at all the Saturday night dances.

On May 21, 2016, Susan lost her son, Heith J. Lashway, who she absolutely adored. She is survived by her husband, Brian; two daughters, Hope Scelza of Quechee, Vt., Hillerie Lashway of Springfield, Vt.; and her children, Breckin and Braylin; Heith’s son, Daygon; a brother, Clarence “Dan” Smith, Jr. of White River Jct.; four sisters, Marie DeCoste of Mores, N.Y., Sharron Clukey, of White River Jct., Shelia DeCoste of Ellensburg, N.Y., Sharlene Stanley of Ellensburg, N.Y.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
