Claremont — Police said a 61-year-old Springfield, Vt., woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Thursday morning in Claremont.

Danuta Antosiewicz died after her 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee left Chestnut Street and hit a large tree stump, according to a Claremont Police Department news release.

Police, Claremont firefighters and first responders from Golden Cross Ambulance responded to the accident near the Unity town line around 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, the release said. They took Antosiewicz to Valley Regional Hospital, where she was pounced dead.

Police said no one else was in the vehicle, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors, the release said.
