South Royalton — The Selectboard plans to meet this morning with trustees of the Royalton Memorial Library and architect Frank “Jay” Barrett to discuss long-planned renovations to the building, which was constructed in the early 1920s and has access and fire-safety problems.

The Selectboard earlier this month hired Barrett as an adviser on the project and moved to replace the previous architect, who had designed a two-story addition after bids came in far higher than the anticipated $750,000 that voters approved in a bond vote last fall.

The Selectboard this week also announced a “timeout” on the project to review alternatives for the library project.

The special meeting will be held at 11 a.m. at the Town Office on Route 14 and also includes time for members of the public to speak during the “public concerns” agenda item.
