White River Junction— A 21-year-old South Royalton man has pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting a woman who was known to him.

Hunter Brock was arraigned on one count of felonious sexual assault without consent in Windsor Superior Court in White River Junction on Friday, the day after police arrested him.

He was released on conditions, including that he have no contact with the victim and abide by an 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew.

According to an affidavit written by Vermont State Police Detective Trooper Christopher Blais, Brock, the victim and another man were drinking at a South Royalton bar on March 10 before going back to Brock’s house to sober up.

The woman recalls waking up unclothed with Brock on top of her, the affidavit said. The other man left the residence prior to the alleged assault.

Brock told police he thought the encounter was consensual. In a recorded telephone conversation between the woman and Brock, he contended he didn’t know he was taking advantage of her, but soon after responded with words to the effect of, “I know it’s wrong, I know it’s wrong now,” according to the affidavit.

Brock is scheduled to appear in court on May 8.
