Lebanon, N.H. — Burton H. Biathrow, 83, a long-time resident of Lebanon passed away at his home in Lebanon with his wife of 55 years by his side, on Friday, March 16, 2018. Burton was known as “Buzz” to his family and friends. He was born in Hanover, N.H. on June 30, 1934, the son of Harry & Jessie (Howe) Biathrow. Buzz grew up on a farm in Enfield where he learned many skills in carpentry, farming and mechanical maintenance. At the age of 21, Buzz enlisted in the Army and served his country from 1955-1957, and in the reserves from 1957-1963 when he received his honorable discharge. Buzz was employed with the Granite State Electric Company in customer service for 35 years, retiring in 1993. He was a hard worker all his life; building a wonderful home on Mascoma Lake for his family, constructing all the cabinetry, flooring and many furniture pieces in the shaker style. Buzz and his wife Barbara grew all their vegetables, supplying local farm stands as well. In retirement Buzz enjoyed building picnic tables, custom built hauling trailers and Adirondack furniture of his own design, which he sold roadside in front of his workshop. Buzz enjoyed great conversation with the people who visited and purchased his furniture. In 1997 Buzz and his wife planted an acre of high bush blueberries and sold their berries to local farm stands.
He was greatly loved by his children, many of the woodworking, gardening, mechanical skills and strong work ethic has been passed on to them; and they have fond memories of learning and working beside their father. Buzz loved taking care of his property and was never happier than sitting on one of his tractors mowing, rototilling and plowing.
Buzz is survived by his wife Barbara L. Biathrow; a daughter Caroline J. Biathrow-Sumner; two sons Mathew B. Biathrow and Clifford R. Biathrow; a sister Betty Biathrow-Paterson; and many nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will occur in May to honor a life well lived. The family of Buzz would like to thank DHMC for all their wonderful care of Buzz, also the Ricker Funeral Home for their devoted service. An online guest book is available to leave a message of condolence for Buzz’s family by visiting www.rickerfuneralhome.com.
