Alpharetta, Ga. —
Dot was born in Cambridge, Mass. on March 11, 1921, and she grew up in Watertown, Mass., daughter of Harvey and Mildred Ames and stepdaughter of Bessie Wallace Ames. Dot married Robert (Bob) Secord and they had four children, Ellen, Susan, Richard and Martha. The family lived for a few years in North Reading, Mass. before settling in Wenham, Mass. for over 25 years. Dot was a full-time homemaker, devoted to her children and husband. She also found time to contribute to her community, especially through the First Congregational Church of Wenham and the League of Women Voters. The Secord family loved the outdoors and enjoyed many happy times together skiing the slopes of New Hampshire, sailing the Cape Anne waters, and camping across the U.S. As her children grew older, Dot ventured into real estate, eventually running her own realty company in Wenham. She loved helping families find their perfect homes.
After retiring, Dot and Bob moved to Sunapee and enjoyed many happy years there, making many new friends, and traveling. Dot also became active in the local P.E.O. In 2011, Dot and Bob moved to Vermont to be closer to their daughter Ellen. In 2017 Dot moved to Georgia to be near daughter Martha.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Bob; daughter Ellen Secord McKeen; son Richard Secord; her parents; and brothers David and Harvey Ames. She is survived by her sister Janet Cate; daughters Susan Secord (Chris Hoffman) and Martha Young; son-in-law Daniel McKeen; her grandchildren Rachel Yoder (Ryan), Amanda Carter (Ken), Benjamin Hoffman and Jake Young; great-grandchildren Asa and Taurin Yoder; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Sunapee area in July.
