South Hero, Vt. — Jean E. Hunt, 79, a resident of South Hero and a former longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Monday afternoon, Feb. 19, 2018, at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.

She was born Dec. 24, 1938, in Windsor the daughter of Shirley J. and Ila (Dimick) Hammond. She received her schooling in Brownsville and Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1956. She married Leon W. Hunt in Brownsville on Dec. 3, 1955, and they were divorced in 1977. Jean was employed as a bookkeeper at the Stoughton House and later at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor. More recently she was employed at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport, Vt. She later moved to South Hero and was employed for Life Safety Systems in Essex Junction until her retirement.

Jean was fond of playing Bridge with her friends in South Hero, enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, going out to dinner and was an avid reader of books. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters, Anne Despart and Charlotte Richardson, and by one brother, Ronald Hammond.

Survivors include one daughter, Bonnie Martaniuk and her husband, John of Windsor; two sons, Douglas Hunt and his wife, Patti of Swansea, Mass. and Timothy Hunt and his wife, Judy of Windsor; one sister-in-law, Shirley Hammond of West Windsor; four grandchildren, Matthew Martaniuk of Windsor, Travis Hunt of Warwick, R.I., Shelby Hunt of Douglas, Mass. and Shawn Hunt of Lebanon, N.H.; five great-grandchildren, Olivia, Zoey, Alex, Ryan and Evan; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 3, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor. The Rev. Charles Danielson, Pastor, will officiate.
