Springfield, N.H. — Dallas R. Patten, 84, of Main Street, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born in New London, N.H. on Oct. 23, 1933, the son of Dallas H. and Hazel M. (Little) Patten.

Dallas graduated from New London High School in 1951 and farmed with his brother all his life. They operated a dairy farm until they sold the herd in 2009, and then raised beef and hay. There was always a horse on the farm and until the 80’s used horses for logging and sugaring. Farming was his life. He was a hard worker never having much time off, but enjoyed going to area fairs every year.

He was an honorary life member of the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department and had served as the Deputy Forest Fire Warden. Dallas was part of the crew that fought the big fire in Croydon years ago. Active in the town, he served on many boards and committees.

He is predeceased by his parents and an infant son, Timothy R. Patten and his son-in-law, Gilbert Wesley Roberts. Dallas is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mabel (Mason) Patten of Springfield; four children; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; Janet Roberts of Springfield and her children, Kevin and his wife, Jen and their children, Brier-Lynn, Broady, Shelby and Sterling; Katie and her husband, Chris and daughter Madison; Doreen and her husband, Andy Oesch of Campton, N.H. and their children, Rick and his wife, Nicole, Craig, Cody; Darrin and his wife, Alison Patten of Springfield, NH and their children, Tori, Jared, Kenny, Abby; Dallas and his wife, Laura Patten of Springfield and their children, Greyson, Forrest, Jordan; Selena, who was like a granddaughter; his brother, Malcolm Patten of Springfield; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London, N.H. on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Springfield in the spring.
