Hartford — Eight candidates met the Monday deadline to submit petitions for five open seats on the Hartford School Board and Selectboard, according to town officials.

Incumbents Mike Morris and Sandy Mariotti are running for re-election to their existing two-year seats on the Selectboard. They are being challenged by Kim Souza, owner of the Revolution store in White River Junction, and Jameson Christopher Davis, a Vermont Law School student and field energy consultant for Tesla.

On Town Meeting Day, residents will cast votes for their top two picks, and the top two vote-getters will be elected.

Also on the Selectboard side, incumbent Simon Dennis will defend his three-year seat against Lannie Collins, an engineering technician at the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory in Hanover.

Collins, who lost a write-in campaign to Selectwoman Rebecca White last year, has been a regular attendee of Selectboard meetings for years, expressing his opinion on a wide range of topics.

For the School Board, Wilder CPA Russell North is the only candidate for a three-year term being vacated by Lori Dickerson, who is not seeking re-election. In December 2015, North was appointed to fill a midterm vacancy on the School Board and served at that time for four months. He ran to keep the seat in 2016, but lost to Nancy Russell.

Russell also is running unopposed to retain her two-year seat.

A budget discussion and candidates night is scheduled for Feb. 26, and Town Meeting Day is March 6.
