Springfield, Vt.
Michael Couture, 36, of Quebec, was driving a logging truck on a downhill stretch of I-91 northbound when he “rapidly” came upon other traffic and the plow truck, according to a Thursday state police news release.
Couture was “unable to slow his log truck down when approaching traffic, and attempted to pass the plow truck in the breakdown lane on Interstate 91,” the release said.
Police said Couture’s truck collided with the plow truck, sending it into the median. The truck then jack-knifed, struck guardrails and rolled over into the median just south of the bridge over the Black River. Couture was not injured in the crash, the release said.
The plow truck driver, Michael Davis, of Bellows Falls, Vt., was taken to Springfield Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His truck sustained moderate damage to its passenger side and plow, the release said.
Police said Couture was cited for unreasonable and imprudent speeds for existing conditions and hazards. Officials worked into late Thursday morning to clear the logs from the median.
