Sunapee, N.H. — Raymond Nutting passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018.

He was born on Jan. 27, 1925, in Newport to Olney G. Nutting and Ethelwyn (Britten) Nutting. He was the youngest of their five children.

He is survived by his wife Lillian (Touchette) Nutting whom he married May 22, 1948. He is survived by his sister Lucille Gilman of Melbourne, Fla. and predeceased by his sisters Helene and Hazel Nutting and brother Kenneth Nutting of Sunapee, N.H. In addition, he is survived by his four children, Ronald Nutting of Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, Linda Nutting of San Antonio, Texas, Kenneth Nutting and Joanne Menard of Sunapee. He is survived by seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Raymond was raised in Sunapee and graduated from Sunapee High School. He went on to serve in the Navy during World War II in Aviation Ordinance Second Class. He was a gunner on the D3 Avenger torpedo bomber, flying off the aircraft carrier Lexington. He was honorably discharged in April of 1946. After the war he worked as a truck driver for Hackwell Lumber for a few years and then worked for Public Service as a lineman for 30 years and retired as a foreman of the line crew.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and bowling. He was a member of the Brewster-Gould-Lee-Rollins American Legion Post 25 of Newport and held the position of president of the Newport Golf Club for two years. Raymond and his wife enjoyed golfing and traveling across country in their travel trailer and visited many countries throughout his life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Legion, Brewster-Gould-Lee-Rollins Post 25, P.O. Box 51, Newport, NH 03773.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 at Lake Sunapee United Methodist Church at 9 Main Street in Sunapee from 10 a.m. until the start of the service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Cheryl Meachen officiating. A reception at the church will follow the service. A graveside service will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. at North Newport Cemetery.
