Washington — John Carlson, Lars Eller and Evgeny Kuznetsov scored as the Washington Capitals beat the Vancouver Canucks, 3-1, on Tuesday night for their fifth consecutive victory and NHL-best 10th in a row at home.

Backup goaltender Philipp Grubauer stopped 37 of 38 shots to pick up his third win of the season. The Capitals haven’t lost at home since Nov. 30 and are 18-2-0 in their past 20 games in Washington.

Alex Ovechkin assisted on Carlson’s goal to get him to four away from 500 for his career. Carlson, who’s sixth among defensemen with 30 points, could join Ovechkin as an All-Star when the league announces rosters today.

Daniel Sedin scored the only goal and Jacob Markstrom made 33 saves for the Canucks, who have lost five in a row. Vancouver has gone 2-11-2 in its past 15 games to go from third in the Pacific Division to 14th in the 15-team Western Conference.

Jets 7, Sabres 4

Buffalo, n.y. — Kyle Connor had two goals and an assist, Nikolaj Ehlers also scored twice, and Winnipeg defeated Buffalo for its third straight victory.

Patrik Laine and Dustin Byfuglien also scored for the Jets in the opener of a three-game road trip. Joel Armia added an empty-netter.

Blake Wheeler had two assists to extend his point-streak to seven games. The Central Division-leading Jets are 6-0-1 during that stretch.

Lightning 5, Hurricanes 4

Tampa, Fla. — Tyler Johnson had three goals, Jake Dotchin scored a tiebreaking goal midway through the third period, and Tampa Bay beat Carolina.

Tampa Bay also got a goal from Victor Hedman, and Brayden Point had three assists. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 28 saves.

Predators 2, Oilers 1

Nashville, Tenn. — Viktor Arvidsson had a goal and an assist, helping Nashville top Edmonton.

Craig Smith also scored and Pekka Rinne made 25 saves in Nashville’s 11th consecutive win against Edmonton.

The free-falling Oilers have lost seven of eight. Connor McDavid scored, and Cam Talbot had 22 stops.

Blackhawks 8, Senators 2

Ottawa, Ontario — Nick Schmaltz and Jonathan Toews each scored a pair of goals and Patrick Kane had a goal and four assists as Chicago routed Ottawa.

Richard Panik, Patrick Sharp and Jan Rutta also scored for the Blackhawks, while Anton Forsberg made 25 saves.

Panthers 7, Blues 4

St. Louis — Vincent Trocheck had two goals and an assist, leading Florida over St. Louis.

The Panthers rallied from 2-0 and 3-2 deficits to snap a three-game losing streak.

Jonathan Huberdeau and Aleksander Barkov each had a goal and two assists, and James Reimer stopped 26 shots in his 15th straight start.

St. Louis has lost three straight against Florida at Scottrade Center. Vladimir Tarasenko and Paul Stastny each had a goal and an assist for the Blues, and Colton Parayko and Tage Thompson also scored.
