Randolph Village Fire Chief Jay Collette said the three departments in town responded to the fire around 8:20 this morning.
“We had a structure fire there. She was able to get herself out on her own, and at the end of the day the house was a total loss,” he said.
Nobody was injured in the fire, but the bitter cold made the response a challenge.
“It’s a private drive in central Vermont,” he said. “It is what it is. Snowbanks and cold weather and all of the elements.”
The homeowner, whom Collette declined to identify, is staying at a son’s home. “She’s been taken care of, and there were no medical issues,” he said.
The house had a woodstove but it was not in operation. Due to the devastation, Collette said determining a cause “is going to be very difficult.”
