Windsor, Vt. — Ruth Marie (Stone) Tifft died Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at Cedar Hill Continuing Care Center in Windsor, at the age of 85. She was born Nov. 22, 1932 in Granville, Vt., where she attended Granville’s one-room schoolhouse. She graduated from Rochester (Vermont) High School.

In 1951 she married William K. Tifft, her beloved husband of 58 years, who predeceased her in 2009. Vermont natives, the couple later lived in New Mexico while Bill served in the Air Force, then in Enfield, Conn., and finally, for many years, in Stuart, Fla., where they enjoyed flying in a small airplane that Bill, an aviation enthusiast, built himself.

Ruth and Bill loved to travel and over the many years of their marriage they visited most of the 50 states of the United States.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Edwin and Caroline (Brown) Stone (Mongeur), as well as sister Frances (Stone) Corliss.

She is survived by two brothers, Albert Stone of Louisville, Tenn., and Lawrence Stone of Brookfield, Vt.; two sisters, Muriel (Stone) Frost of East Randolph, Vt., and Carole (Stone) Bacon of North Springfield, Vt., as well as a step-brother Reginald Mongeur of Randolph, Vt.

Though she had no children of her own, Ruth had many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family of whom she was very fond, as well as they were of her.

Interment will be private at a later date. A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held in the Spring at a time to be announced.

Contributions may be made in her memory to Cedar Hill Continuing Care Center or Historic Homes of Runnemede in Windsor, Vt.

Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, Vt., is assisting the family with arrangements.
