Claremont — The Claremont First Night celebration will have something for every member of the family, from fireworks to wagon rides to live performances, when it kicks off on Dec. 31, at 6 p.m., at locations around the city.

“Whether you are looking to go tubing at Arrowhead, take a dip in the pool at the Community Center, or enjoy some of the great entertainment that we have lined up, there will be something for everyone to enjoy,” Mark Brislin, Claremont’s Parks and Recreation director, said in a news release.

The evening is sponsored by the Claremont Sugar-River Rotary Club, in partnership with Arrowhead Recreation Club, Claremont Parks and Recreation Department, the Claremont Opera House, and several area businesses.

The highlight of the night is a 10 p.m. fireworks display at Arrowhead, which will be shown live on CCTV channel 8. Family-friendly activities will be happening around town before and after the display.

The Claremont Community Center will be hosting pool and gym games, carnival games and performances throughout the evening.

Arrowhead will be open for tubing and skiing, with horse-drawn wagon rides between the recreation area and the community center. At the Claremont Opera House, World Under Wonder will perform scenes from The Tempest. A shuttle bus will run between Broad Street Park and the community center from 6 until 10:45 p.m.

Brislin said he is excited to see new locations and attractions added to the First Night schedule. “When we brought the First Night activities back four years ago, all of the activities took place at the Community Center and Arrowhead,” he said.

“Local businesses have been very supportive of this event and seem excited to bring a New Year’s Eve Celebration back to Claremont,” Joshua Nelson, president of the Claremont Sugar-River Rotary Club, said in a news release. “We are thrilled to be able to offer this event to the community of Claremont and are looking for ways to help sustain this event for years to come.”

Attendees can support the event by purchasing a First Night button from local merchants or Rotary Club members for $1.
