Royalton, Vt. —
She was born May 20, 1929, in Rochester, Vt., the daughter of William O. and Katie B. (Jones) Kent. She attended school in Rochester, Vt., graduating in 1947 from Rochester High School. She also graduated in 1950 from Heaton Hospital School of Nursing. She worked 44 years as a registered nurse at Gifford Hospital in Randolph, Vt. before retiring in 1994.
On Oct. 7, 1950, she married Robert “Danny” Gilman of Royalton, Vt. They lived all their married life in Royalton, where together they raised their family.
She was a member of the United Church of South Royalton, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. She was also a member of the United Church Women, serving on several committees; the Better Homes and Community Club of South Royalton and Rising Sun Chapter #12 O.E.S. where she served as an Associate Matron.
For many years she worked on blood drives in Bethel, Vt. She enjoyed making crafts, helping older people, having her grandchildren spend time at her home in the summer and traveling with her husband, Danny to Hawaii and Nova Scotia.
She is survived by a son, David Gilman and his wife, Marie of Westerly, R.I.; two daughters, Cynthia Cullen and her husband, Kevin of Niskayuna, N.Y. and Rebecca Carr and her husband, William of Concord, N.H.; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; a brother, Robert Kent and his wife, Shirley of Essex, Jct., Vt.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Danny in 1994 and her brother, William Kent, Jr in 1933.
There are no public calling hours. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the United Church of South Royalton, Vt. with Rev. Josh Moore officiating. Burial will be later this spring in the Riverview Cemetery in South Royalton.
