Palm Bay, Fla. — Kenneth Edward Hackett, 79, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at the William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 9, 1938, in White River Junction, Vt., son of Kenneth Ernest Hackett and Elsie Mae (Rose) Hackett.

He grew up in White River Junction, graduated from Hartford High School in 1956 and served in the Army Reserves. He joined the White River Fire District No. 1 at the age of 16 and also drove bus for the school district. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1992 with over 32 years of service.

He married Adeline Jean LaCroix of Lebanon, N.H. on July 11, 1959, and together they enjoyed over 58 years of marriage. They had three children and lived in White River Junction, Lebanon (where they raised their children), Las Vegas, Nev., and Palm Bay. 

In school he participated in football, basketball and baseball and in his early adult years he played in an adult softball league in Lebanon. He was a lifelong fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Boston Bruins and attended many sporting events throughout his life. He enjoyed playing golf, playing poker with family and friends and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his son Mark Edward Hackett and his wife Sylvia of Billerica, Mass., his son Michael Robert Hackett of Anacortes, Wash., and his daughter Michelle Anne LePage and her husband Michael of Westbrook, Maine; his brother Robert Hackett and his wife Helen of Williston, Vt.; his sister Alicia Dionne of Baltimore, Md.; and his three grandchildren, Mariah Adeline, Mikiel Kenneth, and Morgan Annette LePage all of Westbrook: many friends, extended family and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents.

No service or calling hours will be held. A memorial service will be held in his hometown in Vermont in the spring.
