Los Angeles — Monique Billings scored 21 points, Jordin Canada added 20 and No. 8 UCLA defeated third-ranked Baylor, 82-68, on Saturday for the Bruins’ first win over the Lady Bears since 1996.

Kennedy Burke had 19 points for the Bruins (3-0), who held the Lady Bears to 40 percent shooting.

Baylor came in leading the nation in that category at 61 percent.

The victory extended UCLA’s home winning streak to 32 games, the second-longest active stretch in the country behind top-ranked UConn, which visits Pauley Pavilion on Tuesday night.

Kalani Brown scored 33 points despite playing with four fouls for Baylor (3-1). Dekeiya Cohen had 14 rebounds.

Baylor coach Kim Mulkey wasn’t with the team after her daughter lost her baby, which had two life-threatening birth defects and would have been the coach’s first grandchild. Associate head coach Bill Brock ran the team in her absence.

Canada had 13 of UCLA’s 21 assists. Baylor managed just 16 after coming in as the nation’s leader with 29.0.

Men

No. 19 Purdue 106, Fairfield 64

West Lafayette, Ind. — Dakota Mathias, Vince Edwards and P.J Thompson combined for 46 first-half points and No. 19 Purdue made 13 of 18 shots from 3-point range before halftime, crushing Fairfield.

Mathias, Edwards and Thompson — all seniors — were a collective 13-of-15 from beyond the arc during the first 20 minutes when the Boilermakers (4-0) built a commanding 58-28 lead against the previously unbeaten Stags (2-1).

No. 20 Northwestern 82La Salle 74

Uncasville, Conn. — Bryant McIntosh scored 21 points and Scottie Lindsey added 20 to lead No. 20 Northwestern to a win over La Salle in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday.

The Wildcats (3-1) advanced to play Texas Tech in today’s championship.

No. 22 Seton Hall 82, NJIT 53

Newark, n.j. — Desi Rodriguez scored 19 points and No. 22 Seton Hall used an 18-2 second-half run to shake off pesky NJIT and post an 82-53 victory on Saturday.

No. 24 West Virginia 111Morgan St. 48

Morgantown, w.va. — Daxter Miles had a career-high 32 points to leading No. 24 West Virginia in a victory over Morgan State.

The Mountaineers (2-1) had control from the start, opening the game with a 14-3 run.

WVU finished the game shooting 45 of 77 (58 percent) from the field.

Jevon Carter added 16 points or West Virginia while Beetle Bolden had 13 points and freshman Teddy Allen added 10.

Allen has scored in double figures in all three of his Mountaineer games.

Wesley Harris led all players with seven rebounds for West Virginia.

Sagaba Konate, who did not play in the Mountaineers’ win over American on Wednesday, returned to play and finished with eight points and five rebounds.

Lapri McCray-Pace and Martez Cameron led Morgan State (2-2) with 10 points each. McCray-Pace, Cameron and Alec Ennis had five rebounds each.

The Bears shot 18 of 56 (32 percent) from the field.

BIG PICTURE

The Bears play eight of their next nine games away from their home court in Baltimore. Major games include George Washington and George Mason.

West Virginia, in the midst of a three-game mid-major stretch in Morgantown, will look to regain some national respect next week as they head to the Advocare Invitational on Thanksgiving.
