Boston — Danton Heinen scored both goals and Anton Khudobin made 36 saves to lift the Boston Bruins to a 2-1 win over the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night.

Joe Thornton scored for San Jose, which went 1 for 6 on the power play. The Sharks had one in the final two minutes after Brandon Carlo went off for slashing and got three shots while creating havoc in front of Khudobin, but couldn’t capitalize.

Heinen scored his second of the game and broke a second-period tie when he tucked a shot inside the left post after Marc-Edouard Vlasic misplayed the puck in the corner at 13:27.

Thornton tied the score at 1 when he scored on the power play and slipped the puck past a screened Khudobin to tie Jari Kurri for 20th all-time on the NHL scoring list with 1,398 points.

Khudobin made his third consecutive start for Tuukka Rask, who his recovering from a concussion and is expected to return Saturday.

Heinen scored short-handed and notched his first career goal when he knocked in the rebound of David Backes’ shot and beat Martin Jones at 9:41 of the first period.

Penguins 2, Jets 1 (ot)

Pittsburgh — Phil Kessel’s 300th career goal at 1:07 of overtime lifted Pittsburgh over Winnipeg.

Kessel, who also scored the overtime winner against Edmonton on Tuesday, became the 18th American-born player to reach 300 career goals and the second active behind Minnesota’s Zach Parise.

Kings 4, Canadiens 0

Montreal— Jonathan Quick stopped 40 shots for his 46th career shutout, Adrian Kempe and Tyler Toffoli scored 11 seconds apart in the first period and Los Angeles beat Montreal.

Anze Kopitar and Kurtis MacDermid also scored for the Western Conference-leading Kings (8-1-1), who beat the Canadiens 5-2 last week in Los Angeles.

Sunrise, Fla. — Radim Vrbata recorded his seventh career hat trick to lift Florida over Anaheim.

Lightning 3, Red Wings 2

Tampa, Fla. — Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov became the seventh set of teammates in NHL history to start the season with point streaks of at least 11 games, and surging Tampa Bay beat Detroit.

Kucherov got his 12th goal in the first period, and setup Stamkos’ power-play goal from the low left circle that put Tampa Bay (9-1-1) up 2-1 at 6:22 of the third.

Rangers 5, Coyotes 2

New York — Pavel Buchnevich scored twice and added an assist, rookie Boo Nieves had three assists and New York beat winless Arizona.

Hurricanes 6, Maple Leafs 3

Toronto — Josh Jooris scored twice, Teuvo Teravainen had a three-point night and Carolina beat Toronto.

Senators 5, Flyers 4

Ottawa, Ontario — Jean-Gabriel Pageau had a goal and two assists and Erik Karlsson added two assists in Ottawa’s win over Philadelphia.

Wild 6, Islanders 4

St. Paul, Minn. — Eric Staal had a goal and assist, Luke Kunin and Zack Mitchell each scored their first NHL goals, and Minnesota defeated New York.
