Grantham — An affidavit filed by Grantham police in Newport District Court seeking a search warrant indicates that a husband and wife who were found dead in their Eastman home on Sunday night both died by suicide.

The affidavit, unsealed on Wednesday at the request of the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, says that Michael Sbrega, 54, and Michele Sbrega, 42, were both found dead in their bedroom by police. Both had been suffering from serious health conditions, according to the affidavit, and both left handwritten notes inside of their 51 Bright Slope Way home indicating their last wishes.

The discovery of the two bodies touched off an investigation by the state Attorney General’s Office, which on Tuesday announced that their deaths were not the result of a violent crime or an accident, but did not specify the exact cause.

Police said they became aware of the situation on Sunday night when a relative requested a welfare check after not hearing from the Sbregas for a week.
