Lebanon — The Lebanon Outing Club is set to host its Up, Down and Around 5K trail race to cap the running season on Oct. 28.

The race takes advantage of the various types of terrain the Storrs Hill Ski Area has to offer. Billed as part run, part hike and part natural obstacle course, runners will challenge their trail skills and get a taste of what’s to come when the Winter Wild uphill running series come to the hill later this winter.

The race starts at 10 a.m. Online registration is available through www.ultrasignup.com at a cost of $10 for youths and $15 for adults. The fee increases by $5 for all registrants who sign up after Sunday.

Learn to Play Hockey

West Lebanon — Now open for the skating season, Campion Rink has started a new season of learn-to-play hockey clinics on Wednesday mornings.

The clinics run from 9-10 a.m. each Wednesday; the current session goes through Dec. 20, with a new session set for Jan. 3-March 21. The program is designed for those new to the sport who wants to learn the skills of the game and wish to develop a passion for it, all in a comfortable and safe environment.

The focus will be on improving skating and stickhandling skills as well as understanding team play.

The program is co-coached by skating professional Nicole Cochrane and hockey coach Tucker Garrity-Hanchett. The cost to join is $100 for the full session or $15 per class on a drop-in basis. For more information, email info@campionrink. org or call the rink at 603-643-1222.

Curling Club Set for Fall

White River Junction — The Upper Valley Curling Club’s league season will kick off on Oct. 11 at Wendell A. Barwood Arena.

League action will take place every Wednesday from 5:40-8 p.m. Meanwhile, the UVCC will welcome people new to the sport and interested in learning more to weekly open events on Saturdays from 5:45-8:15 p.m., starting on Oct. 14.

Learn-to-curl clinics require advance registration and tend to fill up quickly. The club supplies formal instruction and all necessary equipment; students need only bring warm clothing and shoes with non-skid soles.

Surge Wins Late

Meriden — Adeline Tullar broke a deadlock with the winning goal in the final four minutes of play, giving the Lightning Soccer Club’s U10 Surge girls a 3-2 defeat of WSA Windham U10 on Saturday.

The Surge took the early lead through Melia Pratt, then doubled the lead when Reece Kenney turned a defensive stop into a breakaway goal for Katharine Moseley. Windham pegged back with two scores before halftime.

Ainsley Smith had several scoring bids in the second half for the Surge, but Tullar’s goal finally delivered the victory.

U12 Stars Win First

Meriden — Audrey Rupp scored twice in a three-minute span late in the second half to give the LSC U12 Stars girls a 4-2 win over Hudson United SC on Saturday at Kimball Union Academy, giving the Stars their first win of the season.

Rupp finished with a hat trick, scoring her other goal in the first half to get the Stars moving in the right direction. Riley Breedlove delivered LSC’s other goal, while Julie Busch, Rhys Rountree and Emily Seiler contributed assists.

Comets Get First Victories

Boston — The LSC U11 Comets broke into the win column with victories over the past two weekends.

Sunday saw the Comets roll to a 5-3 win over Valeo Boston. Ian Surgenor, Thatcher Bacon, Andrew McGuire and Oliver Choudhury took care of the offense. Zach Garfield, Sam Ames and Roan Palm led the defensive effort.

The win came on the heels of a 3-1 defeat of GPS Maine Phoenix in Epping, N.H., on Sept. 24. Bacon posted a hat trick in the game, surrounding goals scored with either foot around a penalty kick earned when Choudhury drew a foul in the GPS penalty area. The Comets head to the Nashua Columbus Day tournament this weekend.

Fire Deadlocks Dortmund

Newton, Mass. — Daniel Mladek struck for a pair of goals as the LSC U14 Fire played Valeo SC Dortmund to a 2-2 draw on Sunday.

Valeo opened the scoring two minutes into the second half after the sides played a scoreless opening half. Mladek notched his first goal 10 minutes later on a 20-yard drive set up by Jack Ross.Mladek made it two from the spot later, converting a penalty kick for a trip incurred after catching up to a Zane Schiffman pass in the Valeo box.

The hosts equalized with three minutes to play. Jack Maynes concnetrated in goal to get the deadlock, with Palmer Okai, Jack McGrath, Jack Gardner and Owen Smith helping out on the back line. The Fire plays in the Seacoast United Columbus Day tournament this weekend in Epping, N.H.

Flames Drop Wild Match

Epping, n.h. — Seacoast United North Shore spotted an opening goal to LSC U12 Flames, reeled off three goals in a row and held on for a 4-3 win on Sunday at the Seacoast United Sports Complex.

Flames striker Noi Larusson got the visitors off to a good start, converting a Noah Winchester cross in the eighth minute. Seacoast took control at that point, building a 2-1 halftime lead and extending it to 3-1 in the second half. Winchester stopped the run by scoring on a Nolan Morlock feed 10 minutes into the second half.

Seacoast regained the two-goal cushion, yielding an Adam Goodney goal with 15 seconds left before securing the victory. Norwood Davis finished with five saves in the Flames’ net.

Hartford Hockey Classic

Randolph — The Hartford High School ice hockey program will host its 18th Greater Hartford Hockey Classic on Saturday at Montague Golf Club.

The annual 18-hole scramble tournament helps fund the Hurricanes’ varsity hockey programs. The team fee of $240 includes greens fees for a foursome along with prizes and a post-tournament dinner.

Registration begins at 11 a.m., with a shotgun competition starting at noon. Dinner, awards and prizes will take place at 4:30 p.m. The tournament will be held rain or shine.

Adult Field Hockey

Grantham — Mascoma Valley Parks and Recreation is looking for a minimum of 20 adults up for four weeks of indoor field hockey play at Grantham Indoor.

Adult indoor field hockey is open to women and men ages 18 and older. While geared toward experienced players, newcomers are welcome to give the game a try. Plans are to hold games every Thursday from 6-8 p.m. for four weeks, beginning tonight.

Players must pre-register with Grantham Indoor in order to determine if the program has enough participation to proceed. The cost is $40 for four weeks; no drop-ins, please.
