Claremont — Any resident interested in serving on the City Council to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of Vic Bergeron has to submit an application and letter of interest by noon on Sept. 8. The application is available in the planning office on North Street or on the city’s web site, www.claremontnh.com. Click on the link for applications, form and permits on the home page and scroll down to the Planning and Development office to find the application to serve on a board or committee.
Mayor Charlene Lovett said the council will conduct interviews next month and must appoint someone, as stipulated in the city charter, by the 27th, which is the second meeting following the effective date of Bergeron’s resignation. Whoever is chosen will have to run for a full, two-year term, as will the other eight councilors, in November. On Wednesday, the council appointed councilor Allen Damren to fill Bergeron’s assistant mayor position.
