Lebanon — The Special Needs Alliance, a group of six Upper Valley organizations that serve people with physical and mental disabilities, is hosting the second annual Move-A-Thon 5K Race/Walk to raise money for and awareness of special needs programming.

The event will take place on Sept. 10, at 9 a.m. The race beings at Spark Community Center, 75 Bank St., Lebanon, and continues for a 3.2-mile loop through the streets and rail trail in town.

The route is handicap accessible and wheelchairs are welcome.

Organizers are hoping to raise $50,000 and have 250 participants, double the number from last year, said Nicole Jorgensen, the executive director of High Horses, a therapeutic riding program in Sharon that is part of the Special Needs Alliance.

The money will be used to support programing and make the public more aware of resources in area.

“Our organizations are small but serve a lot of people and want to serve more,” she said. “Twenty percent of households in the Upper Valley have someone with special needs.”

Walkers and runners can register on the day of the event for $30 or preregister online at runsignup.com for $25.
