South Strafford
Workers with Miller Construction, which is undertaking the $1.35 million project, closed Strafford Bridge 29, a town-owned bridge, on Monday, and it is expected to remain closed through Aug. 20, according to the Vermont Agency of Transportation.
The existing bridge — a single-span concrete T-beam bridge that is 46 feet long and 20.6 feet wide — was built in 1923 and is considered “structurally deficient” and “substandard in width,” among other factors, according to VTrans.
It will be replaced with a new bridge that is 26 feet wide from rail to rail, has a 60-foot span and includes a prefabricated superstructure, the agency’s website said.
While the bridge is closed, local traffic is using Mine Road and Tyson Road for a detour.
