Strafford, Vt. —
She attended school in Strafford and later South Royalton, Vt. where she graduated in 1953 from South Royalton High School.
On Sept. 26, 1954, she married Richard C. Rice of Bethel, Vt. at the United Church of Strafford. They lived all but the last years of their almost 62-year marriage in Strafford.
In 1967 she successfully completed a six-month hairdressers course and worked for a few years as a hairdresser. She also held a real estate license and she along with her husband were caretakers of a private ski lodge in Killington, Vt. for over 25 years.
She was a member of the United Church of Strafford, Strafford Senior Citizens, South Royalton Grange, Vermont State Grange and the National Grange for over 55 years.
She enjoyed square dancing with her husband, traveling via the family car and bus tours to Washington, DC as well as Branson, Mo. She also enjoyed vegetable gardening, canning, freezing vegetables and entering items in the floral hall at the Tunbridge Worlds Fair, for which she received many ribbons.
Marion is survived by three sons, Richard C. Rice,Jr. of Westfield, Mass., Chris Rice of Strafford, Keith Rice of Fresno, Calif., a daughter, Valerie Davis of White River Jct., Vt.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Robinson of Strafford; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Richard C. Rice,Sr. on Sept. 6, 2016, and a daughter Carol Rice in 1959.
There are no calling hours. A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 20, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Strafford with Rev. Duane R. Brown officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Strafford Cemetery.
