Cornish, N.H. —
She was born in West Canaan, N.H., on Oct. 28, 1935, the daughter of John and Estabell (Braley) Holmes. She attended Grantham Grammar School and graduated from Lebanon High School, Class of 1953. Emily had been employed by Joy Manufacturing Company in Claremont as well as other various area manufacturing firms.
She was the widow of Lee Marshall Swensen, who predeceased her on April 2, 2013. She enjoyed riding horses and passing her knowledge of horses on to younger generations. Members of her family include two sons, Robert Swensen, Cornish, and Michael Swensen, Wakefield, R.I.; three daughters, Susan S. Williams, Cornish, Linda S. Brown, Moncks Corner, and Patricia Oliver, Cornish; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Mutney, and Edith Willis both of Grantham, N.H.; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Joy Holmes and Polly Holmes; a brother-in-law, Raymond Touchette; and her Morgan horse, Midnight. Emily also leaves behind a wonderful circle of horse friends. She was predeceased by a son, Jon M. Swensen; two brothers, Alfred Holmes and Richard Holmes; and three sisters, Julia Polinski, Beverly Bridge and Margaret Touchette. She was also predeceased by the love of her life, her Appaloosa, Leo.
There will be no visiting hours. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, at the Grantham United Methodist Church with Rev. Cheryl Meachen, officiating.
