Barbara Falzarano
Barbara Falzarano

Norwich, Vt. — Barbara Janet (Schultz) Falzarano of Norwich, passed away peacefully, Monday, July 10, 2017, with her family by her side. She was born May 27, 1931, to John and Dorothy (Moulton) Schultz on her grandfather Moulton’s farm in Corinth, Vt. As a seventh-generation Vermonter, at the age of five, her grandfather’s lesson of “Do you want a ride Barbara?”, answered “I don’t care”, followed by “I don’t care either” as he moved on leaving her to walk the rest of the way home from school. This lesson left her always making sound and caring decisions for the rest of her life.

She and her mother soon moved to Sunapee, N.H., where she attended and graduated high school in 1949. She loved to dance. Dancing often marked major events in her lifetime including dancing with her only granddaughter at her wedding in August 2013. It was at a dance in 1948 at Larry’s Playhouse in Sunapee where she met Louis J. Falzarano. She and Louie married on Nov. 19, 1949. They settled in West Lebanon, N.H. to raise their family of three girls, Patsy, Tonia and Lisa. Barbara would always say her greatest accomplishment was raising her three daughters. During her early years of marriage, Barbara was a homemaker, taking care of her girls but also found time to engage in many civic activities. During the 1950-60s she was on the Board of Civic Association, President of the West Lebanon PTA, and Coordinator of the West Lebanon Theater Arts Group as well as numerous programs throughout those years. She was employed by Fletchers Paint and Decorating, an airline agent at Trans East & Executive Airlines at Lebanon’s Connecticut Valley Airways, as it was known in those days. She also worked part-time for the Valley News as a proof reader.

Upon her divorce in 1968, she attended Lebanon College. Over the next 30+ years she worked starting her career as a bookkeeper to eventually assuming the title of Chief Accountant and Controller for, Hillcrest Motors, Vt. Heel Company, RSD Transportation, NETAM Corp and North Hartland Tool Co.

After her daughters finished college, Barbara purchased a seasonal home in Kennebunk, Maine. Upon retirement she moved fulltime to Kennebunk. She affectionately referred to this as her “Eight Year Kennebunk Vacation”. Health issues brought Barbara back to the Upper Valley, living in Norwich with her daughter Lisa’s family.

Barbara’s love of Jazz began in those early years in Sunapee when many famous big bands of the 40’s would perform in the summer. This love of Jazz continued throughout her life and forged many great friendships with notable musicians. This brought her great joy and was well known to those who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters, Tonia Falzarano Murray of Panama City Beach, Fla., Lisa Falzarano Henderson and her husband Chris Henderson of Norwich; her grandchildren Elizabeth (Liz) Murray and her husband Christopher Ross of Enfield, N.H., Reid Henderson and his wife Katie of Bow, N.H.; her siblings, Clifford Henderson (Susan) of West Lebanon, Judith Henderson, Karen Henderson of Eufaula, Ala.; sister-in-law Delaine Henderson of Willacoochee, Ga.; a step-daughter Vickie Falzarano of Manchester, N.H.; son-in-law Richard Murray (Eileen) of Enfield, N.H.; and many nieces and nephews. She is proceeded by her former husband, her eldest daughter, Patsy Lea Dow, her sister Joan Henderson Breen and her brother Richard Henderson.
