Hanover — The Dartmouth College Board of Trustees this past weekend welcomed two new members and, among other actions, approved a $1.5 million project in Gilman Hall, the former life sciences center.

Richard W. Lewis, a 1984 Dartmouth graduate who serves as CEO and chairman of real estate investment management firm Tristan Capital Partners, will join the board along with Elizabeth “Ellie” Mahoney Loughlin, Class of 1989.

Loughlin serves on the Dartmouth President’s Leadership Council and on several other alumni and fundraising committees.

She is a past president of the Class Presidents Association and of the Class Officers Association.

Two trustees, Denise Dupre and Chairman Bill Helman, both Class of 1980, are retiring. Laurel Richie, Class of 1981, will succeed Helman.

The trustees this weekend voted to devote $1.5 million to the removal of building materials from Gilman Hall, a project that will get underway in the fall.

Located on the north side of campus in the Geisel School of Medicine complex, Gilman has been empty since 2011, but once housed the life sciences departments.

Board members also approved $200,000 for planning and feasibility studies on renewal or replacement of undergraduate housing, according to a Monday news release.

As part of their visit to Hanover, trustees attended Sunday’s commencement ceremonies, where they met with honorary degree recipients and bade farewell to Dupre and Helman.
