Hanover, N.H. — Mary (Peg) Piper, 95, died Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Kendal at Hanover. She was born in Westmore, Vt., on July 6, 1921, and for the last 20 years was a resident at Kendal where she had many friends.

Peg graduated from Haverhill Academy in New Hampshire in 1939. She attended Keene Teachers College in New Hampshire, then completed a Registered Nurse program at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton, Mass. She worked as the Supervisor in the Maternity Unit at Newton-Wellesley Hospital for several years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

In 1943 she married Wilson C. Piper, a lawyer at Ropes and Gray in Boston. Together they raised three children; Stephanie, Charles, and Elizabeth. She and Wilson lived for 50 years in Wellesley, Mass., where Peg was active in Girl Scouts, was a long time volunteer at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, and a member of the Wellesley Hills Unitarian Universalist Church Women’s Association. She and Wilson moved to Kendal at Hanover in 1994. She was an accomplished cook, enjoyed skiing, knitting, and spending time with her family at their beloved summer cottage on Sebago Lake, Maine.

She is predeceased by her husband, Wilson in 1998; daughter, Elizabeth Piper Deschenes in 2008; and son-in-law, A. Laurence Ralph in 2010. She is survived by her son, Charles Piper and his wife Diane of Norfolk, Mass.; daughter Stephanie Piper Ralph of Manchester. Maine; son-in-law Ray Deschenes of California; five grandchildren; and six great-granddaughters. She is remembered fondly by her AFS exchange “daughters,” Nickie from France and Inger from Norway.
