Wozny, 52, cited the health issues of her husband, Tom, as a catalyst for the decision.
“I need to be home with him more,” said Wozny, who also provides play-by-play for high school basketball coverage on Wells River-based radio station WYKR-FM. “It’s time to move on. We’ve got six seniors graduating this year. If I stayed next year, I’d feel like I had to stay another three years (until this year’s freshmen graduated.)”
Wozny has guided the Olympians to the postseason during 26 of her 28 seasons, winning three state championships. Her teams are 27-22 overall in the playoffs and 14-6 since 2010, with Saturday’s championship game being their fourth final appearance over that span. The Olympians enter the final undefeated for the second straight season. They fell to Richford last year, 3-1.
“I might have walked away last year if we had won it,” Wozny said. “After we lost, I had to come back with these seniors.”
