George Bonvallat

Dummerston, Vt. — George Mark Bonvallat of Dummerston passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on May 22, 2017. Born on Feb. 24, 1932, in Lancaster, Pa., the son of Swiss immigrants, he attended the school system in Waltham, Mass., graduating in 1949. He then attended Northeastern University, graduating in 1954 with a BS, and later with a Masters in Civil Engineering. Prior to serving in the U.S. Army for two years, he married Barbara Brigham of Newton, Mass. on July 31, 1954. They resided in Sudbury and Boxboro, Mass. before moving to Woodstock, Vt. with their three children in 1971.

George had a great love for his family, a zest for life, and a strong work ethic. His single greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Early in his life, he spent many happy summers on a farm in Wilmington, Vt. He was a nature lover, frequently spending hours outside beautifying his yard. He loved traveling with family and friends, which included hiking the Grand Canyon in his 60s. He also enjoyed reading history books, playing the accordion, and listening to country music. He liked to relax with coffee and pastries while enjoying conversation and scenic views. George and Barbara had a knack for discovering beautiful places, which included their retirement homes in Dummerston, Vt. and Boca Grande, Fla. He worked for Trumbull-Nelson Construction Co. in Hanover, N.H., and retired as President. George volunteered for his community in various ways, most recently as a Meals on Wheels driver. He always desired to be productive and build a better life for his family and community.

George was predeceased by his wife, Barbara, of 55 years. He leaves behind three children: Jeffrey of Acton, Mass., Mark (and wife Sheila) of Cocoa Village, Fla., and Judith (and husband Duncan) of Brownsville, Vt. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Zachary, Aliza, and Khara.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.
