Brownsville, Vt. — Evelyn U. McCullough, age 87, died peacefully at home Monday, May 1, 2017, surrounded by her husband and family. Evelyn was born in Petersham, Mass. on Dec. 20, 1929, to the late Harry and Dora (Bryant) Upham.

She leaves behind her devoted husband of 47 years, Clayton Richard McCullough; and her children, Brenda (Jim) Burke of Fairview Heights, Ill., Luanne (Keith) Lyman of Orange, Mass., Susan L. Guy of Windsor, Vt., Carol (Bob) Swanson of Grand Junction, Colo., Michael (Peggy) Pierson of Phillipston, Mass., Gary (Mary) Pierson of Claremont, N.H., and Juliet Sumner and fiance, Rob Davis of Claremont. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren (plus two due later this year); many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings, Donald, Dorothy, Clifford, Glenn, and Lloyd; her first husband, Robert N. Pierson; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

Family members and friends fondly remember her adventurous nature. For her 80th birthday she and five family members parachuted at Jumptown in Orange. In 1972 she drove a RV across country with six of her children ranging in age from under one to 18. She was hoping to take another ride on a motorcycle. Evelyn loved walks in the woods, bird-watching, and gardening. She was an accomplished knitter, seamstress, oil painter, and had worked in the nursing field for many years having earned her Licensed Vocational Nursing Degree.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
