Springfield, N.H. —
He was born in Newport, N.H. on Sept. 7, 1939 the son of Urho E. and Alice F. (Stone) Anderson. Frank graduated from Simonds Free High School in Warner, N.H. He served in the US Army during Vietnam and in the National Guard for 20 years. In 1968 he made Springfield his permanent home.
He was a woodworker at Sturm Ruger for 13 years and worked for Walker Power for many years, retiring about 15 years ago. In the 80’s Frank had been Chief of Police for the Town of Springfield and had also served as an EMT. Upon retiring he went to work as the sexton of the cemeteries in Springfield which he thoroughly enjoyed.
He used to like to hunt and fish but working was his focus. At one point he preached at the Springfield Church to help it stay active. Frank was a life member of the Springfield Fire Department and busy with activities around town. He gave his all to the American Legion serving as Adjutant of American Legion Post #40 and past Commander. He had served as State Commander in 2010 and had been District 6 Commander. Frank was Master of Ceremonies for the Springfield Memorial Day services for years and had been an active participant in the Veterans Day services all throughout the area.
Members of his family surviving include his wife of over 48 years, Amy (Waddell) Anderson of Springfield, N.H.; a daughter and her husband, Heather and Rick Shaffer of Springfield, N.H.; six siblings, Dena West of Elkins, N.H., Trudy Heath of Springfield, N.H., Howard and his wife, Cynthia of Springfield, N.H., Robert and his wife, Phyllis of FL, William and his wife, Sue of Springfield, N.H. and Dorothy “Doey” Anderson of Woodstock, VT; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London, N.H. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 4 p.m.- 6 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 2 p.m. in Pleasant View Cemetery, Springfield with military honors conducted by the US Army and American Legion Post 40.
