Claremont — Officials say an unattended pan of cooking oil on the front burner of a kitchen stove in an apartment on Park Avenue caused a structure fire on Monday.

Claremont Police Chief Richard Bergeron said at least three people are displaced following the 2 p.m. fire. All residents evacuated safely and no injures were reported, according to a news release issued by the Claremont Fire Department.

The 2 ½ story multi-family building owned by James King Mulhern Revocable Trust suffered moderate to severe smoke conditions, while the first-floor apartment, where the fire broke out, suffered some fire damage.

The first-floor apartment where Melissa Manley and Shakiih Michell lived is not currently habitable, Bergeron said in a follow-up email.

The second-floor apartment where owner Jamie Mulhern lived may be reoccupied in a day or two, he added. A third apartment was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The property is insured.
