Barre, Vt. — Ruth Marie Lewis, 85, died with her daughter at her side, Monday, April 17, 2017, at the Rowan Court Nursing Home in Barre where she lived for many years.

She was born March 21, 1932, in Strafford, Vt., the daughter of Grover and Alice (Harvey) Pixley. She attended school in Strafford. On March 23, 1968 she married Verdell Lewis. Ruth worked in housekeeping at the Hanover Inn in Hanover, N.H. for over 24 years. Following the death of her husband Aug. 16, 1988, she made her home with her daughter, Charlotte, first in Braintree, Vt. and then Roxbury, Vt. The last 10 years due to ill health she has lived at Rowan Court in Barre.

She enjoyed bingo and walking her dog, Pebbles who predeceased her.

She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Senecal of Roxbury, Vt.; a stepson, Greg Lewis of California; four grandchildren, Shannon, Jeremy, Becky and Jessica; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Marvin Pixley and his wife, Candy of Strafford; a sister, Isabell Spencer of Randolph Center, Vt.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband; three brothers, Harvey Pixley, Edward Pixley and Arthur Pixley.

There are no public calling hours. A graveside Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Strafford Cemetery in Strafford.
