Arlene Morgan

Grafton, N.H. — Arlene S. Morgan, of Grafton, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 87. Arlene, born April 23, 1929, was the daughter of Mary and George Caldwell of Connecticut, where she was raised, attending Catholic elementary and Stamford public schools.

As a young woman, Arlene was a drum majorette for the American Legion. One of her favorite memories was recounting the time she led the Legion down 5th Avenue for a major parade in New York City. It was through a Legion band member that she met her future husband, Albert H. Morgan of Stamford, Conn., an Army Air Corp soldier home on leave at the time. Arlene and Al married in 1948, living in the area until they moved from their Greenwich, Conn. home to New Hampshire in 1981 to live out their retirement years.

Arlene enjoyed being a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother for her family and was an active participant in her children’s and grandchildren’s academic and extracurricular activities.

Arlene could often be found working in the garden, fishing on a lake with her family, playing cards, or vacationing at the ocean. The holidays were especially important to Arlene, hosting the family on the various celebrations around the family home dining table.

Arlene was predeceased by Al, her loving husband of over 52 years; and by her three brothers, George Caldwell, Jr., Robert Caldwell, and Morgan Caldwell. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and James Carey III of Florida; her son and his wife, Albert and Carol Morgan of Grafton; daughter, Susan Morgan of Plainfield, N.H., daughter, Rebecca Morgan of Plainfield; three grandchildren: Matthew Morgan, Jessica Schupp and Clayton Morgan; and several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services are to be held on April 21, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Saint Michael Church, Greenwich, Conn. with burial to follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, also in Greenwich.
