Hanover — Ranked 19th in the nation, Boston College used a late run to secure a 16-9 win over the Dartmouth College women’s lacrosse team on Wednesday at Scully-Fahey Field.

The Big Green (5-6) dropped its second game against Boston College (11-5) in as many seasons after winning the first 19 meetings in the all-time series prior to last year’s defeat in Newton, Mass.

Taryn Deck and Elizabeth Mastrio led the Big Green with three goals each.

Deck also registered an assist for a team-high four-point game. Kierra Sweeney had a goal and one assist in the loss. Courtney Weisse and Sophia Turchetta netted one goal each.

BC got five goals from Sam Apuzzo and four from Laura Frankenfield. But the game’s star was the Eagles’ Kenzie Kent, who finished the game with three goals and six assists. Kate Weeks also kicked in a hat trick of her own and a pair of assists.

Deck and Sweeney scored the opening two goals of the second half to pull the home team even at 7-7. But Weeks scored twice 14 seconds apart with 21 minutes remaining in the second half to kick off the Eagles’ run that would put Dartmouth out of reach. BC scored seven of the final nine goals.

Big Green freshman goalkeeper Kiera Vrindten moved past 100 saves on the season with her 14 on Wednesday, while also picking up a game-high five ground balls. The visitors used two keepers in the game with each registering just one save in 30 minutes of action.

Dartmouth is back on the field on Saturday against No. 8 Cornell.

College Baseball

Colby-Sawyer 2, Castleton 1Colby-Sawyer 2, Castleton 0

Castleton, Vt. — The Chargers snapped Castleton’s eight-game winning streak with a pair of road victories, improving to 10-8 this season (4-2 in conference).

Quechee native Justin Devoid opened up the scoring in the top of the fourth inning of game one on an RBI single from Brendan Thuber. Woodstock’s Doug Avellino added to the lead in the fifth thanks to a Castleton defensive miscue that allowed Avellino, attempting to steal third base, to score safely. Chris Mitchell went the distance for Colby-Sawyer, giving up one run on four hits. Mitchell also struck out five to earn his NAC-leading fourth win of the year. Castleton’s Davis Mikell suffered his first loss.

Avellino contributed offensively again in game two, opening the scoring in the fifth inning on an RBI groundout that sent the Woodstock native home from third. Michael Fazio threw the first five innings and scattered three hits to earn his second straight win for the Chargers.

Colby-Sawyer travels to Daniel Webster today.

Baseball

Woodsville 12Canaan-Pittsburg 2

Woodsville — Cooper Davidson was 4-for-4 with three runs scored, an RBI and four stolen bases for the Engineers.

Davidson also went four innings on the mound, allowing six hits and two earned runs in his team’s season-opener. Seanon May was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. Woodsville’s top six hitters provided all 12 runs.

Zach Moore pitched one inning in relief and threw one strikeout. The Engineers (1-0) travel to Profile on Friday.

Sanborn 1, Lebanon 0

Kingston, n.h. — Derek Griffin struck out five, but allowed three hits and a walk in five innings of work for the loss in Lebanon’s season-opener.

“We really didn’t put any pressure on their defense,” Lebanon head coach Doug Ashey said. “You’ve got to get hard-hit balls in play.”

Lebanon mustered four hits. Nate Gariepy was 3-for-3 and Griffin added a single, but no Raider baserunner made it past second base.

Sanborn scored on a defensive error in the fifth inning. Lebanon finished the game with two errors. Nate Perkins pitched one inning and threw a strikeout in relief of Griffin in the sixth.

Lebanon (0-1) travels to Bow on Friday.

Softball

Woodstock 7, Proctor 2

Proctor, Vt. — Maddie Moore struck out five and allowed only two hits in the Wasps’ season-opening victory.

Moore added two hits to the win. Loretta Blakeney hit a two-run double for the Wasps, Lizzy Peck added two hits and Emma Walker hit a double.

Woodstock (1-0) is off next week after Friday’s matchup against Hartford was postponed.

Woodsville 13Canaan-Pittsburg 5

Canaan, Vt. — McKenzie Dennis was 3-for-4 with a double and a three-run home run in the third inning to help Woodsville win its season opener.

Maggie Daly threw for six innings and gave up three hits, eight walks and struck out 11. Dennis finished the game in the circle with three strikeouts in one inning of work.

Gabby Taylor was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Kyleigh Lamarre added two hits, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Woodsville (1-0) is scheduled to travel to Profile on Friday.

Plymouth 15, Lebanon 0

Plymouth, n.h. — The Raiders dropped their season-opener on the road. Lebanon is scheduled to host John Stark on Monday.

Girls Tennis

Hanover 9, Dover 0

White River Junction — Hanover bounced back after suffering its first loss of the season this week to Exeter with a clean sweep in a match played at Hartford High.

Rine Uhm, Margaret Werner, Mindy Wu, Ellen Lamm, Briland Laycock and Grace Li all earned singles wins. Hanover’s toughest match was at No. 2 doubles with Werner and Lamm, who finished with an 8-3 victory.

Hanover (2-1) travels to Alvirne on Friday.
